In celebration of Teen Tech Week (March 9-15, 2014) The ABC Library is offering its first-ever Book Trailer Contest! Book Trailers are similar to movie trailers, (a.k.a. previews) but they promote books instead of films. Book Trailers are made to encourage people to read a particular novel. They usually give an audience a sense of what a book is about without giving away too many details so the audience will want to read the book to find out what happens. A Book Trailer is NOT a book review or a book report.
Any teen or group of teens (4 maximum) ages 13-19. Teens ages 13-17 must have written permission from a parent or legal guardian on their entry form. (13 is the minimum age to register for an online service, like YouTube, which is being used for this contest.)
A panel of ABC Library staff judges will view all entries and select finalists. All finalists’ entries will be shown at the Teen Book Trailer Awards ceremony on Saturday, March 15, 2014, 4 - 5:30 p.m. Each of the finalists will receive a free book. The top video trailers in three categories will receive a prize. The three prize categories are: 1) Individual, 2) Team, and 3) Audience Favorite.
The best trailer created by an individual will win an iPad Mini. The best trailer submitted by a team will win a $50 gift card to Target for each team member. The individual or team that submits the Audience Favorite trailer will win a $40 gift card to Alamosa Books. All entries will be acknowledged with a certificate.
